Jekyll Issues
April 18, 2025
Aaaaaarg I’m getting swamped by nitpicky details and feeling stuck from it
I’m enjoying Jekyll, I think? Pros and cons because I like lists:
- Pro: I love the templating, that’s incredible, completely game changing! Without templating I would lose my mind by having to make changes in every single document I made. I think templating is definitely the way to go about writing a website
- Con: Jekyll does weird spacing with the output html files. I’m not trying to write earthshakingly good code or anything but I would at least like the spacing to look nice? And jekyll seems to be struggling with that.
- Pro: writing pages in markdown is also lovely. It feels so much more natural than writing stuff between tags
- Con: that said, I do like how specific I can be with html. There isn’t a clear 1:1 match for every html tag in markdown. Like for my quotes, I want to use the quote tag but I haven’t figured out a way to write that nicely in markdown yet.
- Con: posts needing to named with the date and a title is. fine? probably? but imo it looks clunky and gross.
- Sass is probably cool? Styling is already a struggle so idk how much use I’ll get out of it
Unrelated issue but it’s my blog so deal with it: I need to call a new doctor and I don’t wanna and that’s adding to the frustration.
